–They told me that I would never fly. In fact, that’s exactly what they said, too: “Eva, you’re never gonna fly. Your life was meant to be here, in the slumps. Get used to it.” That’s what my father said when I came running home from school on career day. In my world, being able to fly means nothing more than finding a different life, escaping the life you were born into, finding a way to rise above your birth status. I was born to some of the lowest of the low. In your world, they would be called prostitutes. In my world, they are called epo-innath-baga: women without honor. I was one of the luckier children, escaping that life at my birth. My mother had been my father’s favorite, and he kept returning to her, even after they knew she was carrying me. When I was born, my father took me into his custody, telling my mother that the life she lived was not fit for a child. He would have taken her too, if he could. As it was, my arrival brought him before the council. It doesn’t happen very often, that a man brings home a child born of an epo-innath-baga. It’s even rarer that the blood tests show a true relation between that child and the acclaimed father, as it was with the two of us. I think that did it though, what brought him to exile, was the fact that he had been a high standing knight in the prince’s regiment. I gather that high standing knights of the prince’s regiment are expected to avoid, shun the services of the epo-innath-baga, even if that knight happens to be unmarried, which is generally the case of the knights in my world. And so, I have never known anything but this life. And I’ve been told all of my seventeen years that I will never be anything more than the daughter of a disgraced knight. That I will never fly. Yeah, right.
I’m twenty years old, pending a divorce, and just starting to get settled into my job in the US Army. I come from a fairly large family and can’t wait to start a family of my own. I love love love writing, though I often have a hard time forming my thoughts into words. But, writing comes easier than speaking for me. I don’t know why, it just always has.
I heart this Poison. It’s very good. ^.^ Keep it up.
Thank you, thank you!
